Spreading the Word - Evolution of Dad

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

So, I/we/SohoKind, in our young existence, almost made it into our first film .

Filmmaker Dana Glazer is creating a documentary called Evolution of Dad, discussing the evolving American father. Dana himself is a work-at-home-dad and his project was recently featured in Time magazine : The Evolution of Dad - He’s No Mr. Mom.

Evolution of Dad has an open call to fathers with a story. I submitted my story in video form, which is also the story that led to and is now centered around SohoKind.

To see the video check out Opening up the Daddy Dam.

Enjoying the Holiday Season

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

SohoKind Café has been a lot of fun so far.

I do realize the café posts have slowed down a bit.

My son and I are still venturing into the NYC cafés many times a week.

And there are still a few on our list and probably many other great spots that we have not yet discovered, in order to put them on the list.

The thing is that we have been experiencing an increasing rate of disappointments. Such as yesterday.

Really charming store-window as seen from the street. Mouth-watering pastry display. But then the music changed to I-do-not-know-what and it seemed to match my ‘macchiato’ in that department.

The macchiato was almost the size of a coke can, served in a paper cup even though we were staying in the café and instead of a crèma, there was a layer of water.

To get back on track, as well as just have an enjoyable time, we ventured over to La Colombe.

In general, we have been re-visiting a bunch of our favorites. Within the last couple of weeks, we have had really enjoyable times at Zibetto, Café Grumpy, Fika and La Colombe.

Seeing that 2007 is winding out now, this is what we will do.

There are a couple more cafés to visit before the New Year.

And then the first week of the New Year, SohoKind Café will release our Favorite Café Guide 2008.

Also, our 7th baby & kid T-Shirt design is being released next week right before the New Year.

Hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday Season!

All the Best,

Spencer

Nos Amis, Les Légumes! Our Sixth T Design!

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

We are pleased to announce the release of SohoKind’s sixth children’s T shirt design, Nos amis, les légumes, which was conceived by SohoKind and designed by Zou in Buenos Aires.

Now available in our boutique!

Nos amis, les légumes

Veggies are friendly.

Thus, veggies are tasty!

Seems logical enough.

Hopefully, this t-shirt will help our little ones love and enjoy veggies from their first experiences as little babies. My little guy is loving everything but broccoli so far.

Maybe I should have him wear this shirt on broccoli day.

And, since often we seem to have something visceral against veggies that just says ‘no’, then you can try a bit of René Magritte-esque reverse logic as a tactic :

‘These are not vegetables’

Maybe then your kids will eat them.

Strange Love! Our Fifth T Design!

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

We are excited to release our fifth children’s T shirt design, Strange Love, whose concept and design is by Bella from here in New York.

Now available in our boutique!

Strange Love

Strange love is good.

There is no gender in this love.

No rules and all love.

Ahh how they met…

While traveling, alien’s spaceship was on the fritz and stopped at a solar station. By chance robot was the attendant.

Well, robot was so full of metal ideas and wonder that alien invited robot to take a ride.

They got along so well that they’ve been together ever since. Soaring in and out of many solar systems.

So this is love.

True love knows no gender, race religion or how you like your eggs.

Stay brite…

Pink is for Girls! Our Fourth T Design!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

SohoKind is excited to release our fourth baby & kids’ T-shirt design, Pink is for Girls, conceptualized and designed entirely by SohoKind.

Now available in our boutique.

 Pink is for Girls

Simple.

Obvious?

Pink is for girls. In some cultures we are taught this from an early age. And this T just expresses this cultural standard.

All of which fully explains why the message is in blue.

Yes, Pink is for Girls, and thus blue is for…

We’ll have more fun with the concept in later releases!

Berlin Alphabet! Our Second T Design!

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

We are proud to release our second children’s T shirt design, Berlin Alphabet, designed and conceptualized by me, Spencer, at SohoKind.

Now available in our boutique.

Berlin Alphabet - Lemon

An alphabet (German and English) for the kids to learn from, puzzle and design statement all in one.

Berlin is just a cool city, after having visited each of the past 2 years, my interest and amazement in this city just grows. We were there this summer with my son (3 months at the time) for almost a week and had a great time. But we still have only scratched the superficial surface of what this city has to offer.

Paris has its beauty. New York has its energy.

Berlin has that and its intrigue.

This T design is meant to express this intrigue of the city. It is not difficult to appreciate Berlin, but it is like a puzzle. You need to interact with the city to find and realize its genius and charm.

Stand Out! Our First T Design! From Buenos Aires!

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Here’s our first design, Stand Out. Coming out of Buenos Aires from Carolina Rocco.

Now available in our boutique.

Stand Out - Light Blue

Sometimes the people around us, just see the world in black-and-white. Sometimes we may even feel surrounded by the same. Pressure to conform in our looks? Thoughts? Way of living?

There could be numerous analogies.

The world needs different ideas, new ideas, different ways of thinking. Those ideas can be drastic. Or, more subtle.

Sometimes it is something fresh and different that takes humanity forward. Or, at the least, will catch your eye.

Here’s to colored penguins!
