First Day, Not So SAHD

August 30th, 2007

by Spencer

Yesterday was my wife’s first day back at work. Signaling the end of her 3-month maternity leave and my first full-fledged day alone as a Stay At Home Dad (SAHD).

Lots of various feelings, and strong ones. Fatherhood has been a dramatic life change. Beautiful moments and stressful ones. I do not think this next transition to Stay At Home Dad will be any different.

On one side - Nervous. “Oh, no, I’m stuck at home with the baby all day.”

On the other - Excited. “Me and my son with the whole city at our finger tips!”

To be honest, I have conceptualized for a while about what I want to do with SohoKind. But the devil is always in the details. What exactly should I blog about? I have never been much of a writer. And have never kept a diary. Thus, this is new for me. Pretty much as new as fatherhood. For weeks, no idea really clicked.

But one simple question, made it easier :

What do I enjoy doing on a daily basis?

Cafés.

Voila.

SohoKind Café

I love cafes.

Also, my son needs fresh air in the afternoon. This is when he tends to get the edgiest and the first step outside usually calms him right down.

Seems like it could be a great match to explore the New York cafe scene together.

So my first day as a SAHD, I decided to go to a cafe in SoHo…
